The Reykjavik Gay Pride 2006 ended on Sunday August 13th with a Rainbow Mass in Hallgrimskirkja, the largest church in the country. The mass was televised nationally on NFS news.
Reverant Pat Bumgardner from the Metropolitan Community Church in New York gave a powerful sermon, but six Icelandic priests took part in the service. The Metropolitan Community Church is the church of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people in 22 countries. In her sermon Pat said Icelanders could teach the world a lot regarding gay rights and how people of all sexual preferences can live togeter in harmony.
About 45 - 55 thousand people came to the city center for the parade and concert and the opening ceremony on the Friday was sold out as usual. People have already sent us links to their photos from the event. If you have photos you took or link to your own web site, please send us the information.
