Carole Pope at Reykjavik Gay Pride

14.3.2008

Loved by men and women around the world, the platinum and gold recording artist is going to perform at Reykjavik Gay Pride. Carole Pope has been around for awhile but this will be the first time the people of Reykjavik will be able to see and hear her perform live on stage.

Carole Pope has earned three Juno Awards, (Canadian Grammy, a Genie Award,  or Canadian Oscar),  four Gold, one Platinum and one double Platinum record to her credit. Through the years she has become an icon of transgressive music.

Throughout her career, Carole Pope has blazed a trail for the anti-diva in all of us. In sharing her thoughts on sexuality, and sexual politics. Her music makes you Think and dance at the same time, to quote one writer.

“Transcend, Pope's latest weapon, is explosive electronica that swaggers with rhythmic confidence while Pope's husky vocals both dare and deliver with the swelling abandon for which she's known. "World Of One" is dark and smoky, a visceral and sexy send off. "I won't play nice and make it easy/ In your world of one," Pope promises.

In "Dream6" she blends the lure of desire with relentless, restless guitar riffs. "Americana" is a delicately hypnotic tour of landscapes and politics, says  Xtra Magazine. She has contributed music to films and television, including The L Word, The Trailer Park Boys Movie, This Revolution, Queer As Folk and The Five Senses, Cruising, A&E, The History Channel, MTV, and VH1.

She is the author of a best selling autobiography entitled Anti Diva by Random House publishing and the film rights for the book were recently optioned. Carole’s infamous band Rough Trade was inducted into the Indy Hall of Fame this month of March during Canadian Music Week.

Praise for Johnny Marr: Single from Transcend The Hit List, Toronto Star CAROLE POPE: Johnny Marr "Now I'm not religious, but you made me think I was. This potent Canada-only bonus track, which caps off Pope's new solo album, evokes the hysterical worship of The Smiths,  inspired, as well as touching on the complicated relationship between that band's two principals, Morrissey and Marr.

As Pope so succinctly puts it, Your indifference was an aphrodisiac.  Single of the Month Rock: Carole Pope – “Johnny Marr Taken from her new album Transcend, this rocker releases her best single in more than two decades. With shades of Siouxsie and the Banshees, this hypnotic story about the famous rift between The Smiths bandmates Morrissey and Johnny Marr puts Pope back on top.

"Why has this legend still not been named to the Order of Canada?",  Daniel Paquette, Fab Magazine
